MBBR technology is a cutting-edge technology in the field of sanitary and environmental engineering and is currently widely tested and validated. It incorporates the main benefits of the two most widely publicised treatment techniques: activated sludge and percolation beds.

It is a continuous flow biological treatment process that incorporates a synthetic bacterial medium in suspension, which allows for a higher density of biomass per reactor volume, resulting in more compact, preforming and reliable treatment units.

Os MBBR (MOVING BED BIOFILM REACTOR) reactors were created to combine the positive characteristics of activated sludge and percolator bed systems, benefiting from their functional simplicity and low initial investment and operating costs, versatility and reliability in meeting the legally required treatment levels, reducing the surface area of the plant and eliminating a number of operational problems typical of conventional lines, mainly associated with the loss of biomass from the biological reactor due to washout and the potential creation of anaerobic conditions in the secondary decanter, leading to the development of odours.

La technologie MBBR (MOVING BED BIOFILM REACTOR) technology is based on the development of biomass in polymeric support media that float in the mixed liquor of the bio-reactor. The use of synthetic bacterial support OXYBIO®-GS allows the growth of a higher concentration of biomass per unit volume than conventional systems. As well as allowing the use of smaller reactors, these become more robust and less sensitive to variations in concentration and flow. Toxic events or hydraulic shocks have a much smaller effect on treatment efficiency as they do not affect the total biofilm population, ensuring rapid recovery.
